Norman’s Cason Deyalsingh: Academic Athlete Presented By Republic Bank & Trust
- Updated: March 1, 2020
The Norman Academic Athlete of the Month is Cason Deyalsingh, a sophomore wrestler at Norman High. In his sophomore season Cason is off to a good start at 138 pounds with a 5-3 record.
“This year I’ve gotten a lot better at defense and shot taking,” said Deyalsingh, “also, I think I got a lot better working in the room and just trying to make myself better in general.
With all his improvement Cason has big goals for this season.
“I really want to qualify for State and also to make sure that I stay focused on my academics, also I really want to place at State and that’s going to be hard, but I just have to put the work in and become a leader in the room, getting as much knowledge as possible to help with confidence, because if you have to wrestle one of the best you can’t be doubting yourself,” said Deyalsingh.
Cason is also a standout in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA, it’s clear how important education is to him.
“Academics are really important for me,” said Deyalsingh, “because I want to be able to wrestle in college and I want it to be a part of my life for a long time, so I just try to always do my best on my tests and work.”
Cason is also a member on the Athletic Advisory Board at Norman. A board of top athletes from each sport to help the school learn how things can be done better.
