Norman North’s Jessika Evans: Driven Athlete of the Month – Presented by Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Norman
- Updated: January 8, 2020
By Travis Sloat
At the time that this article was written, Norman North senior Jessika Evans has 712 career points in a Timberwolves uniform, and is looking to get to the coveted 1,000.
“This year I want to make all-state, break the rebounding record at my school, and get to 1,000 points,” Evans said. “As a team, of course I want to make it to state and win our conference.”
The six foot Tulsa University commit said she starting playing basketball in the first grade, but really fell in love with the game in sixth grade. She is also heavily involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which she said has a few things in common with the hardwood.
“I am a leader in FCA along with my position on the basketball court,” she said. “I get everyone on the same page, and execute what needs to be done. I’m not sure if I model my game after anyone in particular, but I like to watch the more versatile players that can get in the post and have a game from the outside.”
Evans advocates for FCA, and said the program is a great way to be involved with something that has a purpose.
“So many athletes are worried about what happens on the court instead of off the court,” Evans said. “The ball will stop bouncing at some point, and having structure and a a spiritual backbone that FCA provides can help you so much after the sport is over. There are so many amazing people in FCA who can help you with anything. It’s really an organization that you want to be a part of.”
