Norman’s Ben Sparks – Academic Athlete of the Month Presented by Republic Bank & Trust
- Updated: August 7, 2019
As one of the top football recruits in Oklahoma, Ben Sparks of Norman High School is well known for his accomplishments on the field, but the classroom is another area where Sparks leaves the competition behind.
Now a senior, Sparks carries a 3.9 GPA while playing sports for Norman.
“Academics are super important to me,” said Sparks. “My favorite subject is Math. It has always made the most sense to me.”
Finding balance between athletics and academics is something Sparks has learned to do over the years and as he looks forward to playing football at the collegiate level, he knows that balance is magnified in college.
“It can sometimes be difficult to balance, but once you learn to time manage and get use to it, its not to bad,” said Sparks.
Sparks has decided to take his talents to Southern Methodist University next fall, but first he wants to help lead the Norman Tigers to a great season.
His commitment to academics sets an example for his peers and younger student-athletes to follow.
“I believe athletes should put a major focus on academics because it can be a very helpful pipeline to play college athletics,” said Sparks.
In college, Sparks plans to pursue a degree in Business.
