Southmoore’s Kyler Ayres – Academic Athlete of the Month Presented by Republic Bank & Trust
- Updated: June 4, 2019
Kyler Ayres has played baseball since he was four years old, first being introduced to the sport by his mother encouraging him to play. Ayres has looked up to his mom in many ways throughout his life and is grateful for all of the support she gives him.
“My mom has been my role model,” he said. “Growing up, she’s played the role of both parents and has done an amazing job.”
Ayres recently graduated from Southmoore High School, where he played outfield for the Sabercats baseball team. He said that one of his favorite things about competing for his high school was getting to represent the Southmoore community. In his words, what stood out about his senior season was “hitting for the cycle and seven home runs.”
Ayres is a driven competitor who knows that you have to put in work off the field as well to be successful. That mindset is what motivates him to give his best efforts.
“I want to be successful and the grind never stops,” he said.
In the classroom, Ayres stayed on top of his assignments by keeping his priorities in line, going “straight from school to baseball and homework,” he said.
With his time at Southmoore High School at an end, Ayres’ future plans are to continue his baseball career on the collegiate level playing at Seminole State.
