Norman’s Aly Burkhart – Academic Athlete of the Month Presented by Republic Bank & Trust
- Updated: May 17, 2019
By Corey Heim
A senior at Norman High School, Aly Burkhart has excelled both as a forward for the girl’s soccer team and as a student in her community.
She began playing thirteen years ago when she was only five years old, and her passion for the sport has only continued to grow throughout the years. She was first interested and encouraged to start the sport due to her older sister playing soccer.
Burkhart said she loves to compete and be a role model for her teammates. Her teammates and community have been some of her biggest supports and influencers and she only hopes she can do the same in return.
“I enjoy competing because it makes me challenge myself to be the best player and give 100% effort,” Burkhart said. “My teammates are my number one supports and we all rely on each other to put forth effort for our team.”
When asked about her favorite memory playing soccer for Norman she mentioned a game against Sapulpa this year where she scored the game-winning goal.
“It was a close game most of the second half and with one minute and thirty seconds left we were tied 3-3,” Burkhart said. “I scored the winning goal from 25 yards out.”
Beyond soccer, Burkhart is active in Student Council and Link Crew. She plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to pursue a degree on occupational therapy this coming August.
