Roarke Simpson – Southmoore
Southmoore junior Roarke Simpson has wrestled for eight years, getting his start in the sport with the help of his father, who is a coach.
“My dad was a coach at Carl Albert when I was really young. He now helps out at Southmoore High School,” said Simpson.
In addition to wrestling, Simpson is involved at his high school as vice president of the junior class and a member of National Honor Society. When it comes to his sport, Simpson is all about the competition.
“My favorite thing about competing for Southmoore is all of the competition that we get to experience, not only in the practice room but in duals and tournaments,” he said.
Simpson is an athlete who is driven to succeed and he puts in work to make that happen, whether he is trying new techniques, putting in extra workouts, or reviewing footage to find areas to improve.
“Every day I strive to push myself further on the mat by working on different techniques that I may not be very comfortable with,” he said. “Off the mat, usually I’ll go to the gym and run or watch film and break it down with my dad.”
After high school Simpson plans to attend college and would like to be a firefighter.
