Myka Perry – Norman
Norman High basketball standout Myka Perry had an athletic childhood. She played many different sports from a young age, but as soon as she played her first season of basketball, she says she fell in love. She has spent the last decade putting in work to get better at her sport and enjoying herself along the way.
Perry’s favorite thing about competing for her high school is that she has teammates she loves to work alongside in games. She is excited to represent the Lady Tigers on the court this year. As a freshman, Perry will work hard to prove herself and step up for her team.
“What motivates me to be a good teammate and leader is that as a freshman I have a lot to prove of myself and I have to step out of my comfort zone sometimes to make sure my team is successful,” she said.
The thing that drives Perry the most is her competitive nature. She knows there will be no lack of talented players she will face on the court this year, but she is confident that she and her teammates can hang with the best of them. Right out of the gate, she says that the Lady Tigers’ goal this year is state.
“This season I am looking forward to playing against good players and playing with good players,” she said. “I love the competitiveness more than anything. I think we can achieve a lot this year. Our goal is state.”
When asked who has been a role model in her life, Perry shared one of her coaches who has taught her a valuable lesson.
“Coach Neal has been the best role model for me,” she said. “He has taught me to never settle.”
Although she still has the rest of her high school career to enjoy, when she does look ahead to the future, Perry says that she would like to play basketball at the next level and go as far as she can with the sport. After that chapter of her life closes, she expressed interest in being a photographer.
