Maci Milligan – Norman North
Maci Milligan has played volleyball for seven years now, following in the footsteps of her older sister who also played. Milligan had the full support of the Norman North community behind her when she won VYPE’s online Volleyball Player of the Month poll by a landslide of votes.
The Lady Timberwolves pulled a winning record out of the 2018 season, which Milligan described as “a roller coaster.” She shared that the team saw lots of growth, both as a group and as individuals, and that they earned every win they got.
Milligan said that one of her favorite things about competing for her high school is the fact that she can compete alongside teammates of a variety of ages and skill sets. She made a point to step into a leadership role this season with a team that was quite young.
“Especially this past season for Norman North, all of the younger girls motivated me to be a leader and good teammate,” she said. “We had a relatively young team this year as far as age and experience go, so knowing that they looked up to me and to me when times got tough made me strive to be the best role model I could be for them.”
While Milligan strives to be a leader on the court, she herself looks to her older sister for examples of leadership and hard work.
“My sister Kaitlin has definitely been a huge role model for me,” she said. “She has the best heart and does so many amazing things (she’s extremely smart and plays golf on a full scholarship at OU, even broke multiple records her freshman year). She’s just an all-around incredible person and I always strive to keep up with her, which I think makes me a better and stronger person. She’s taught me to work hard and embrace life.”
Outside of volleyball, Milligan is also on the SPUD committee, which is a philanthropy group at Norman North, and she played golf with her sister during her freshman and sophomore years. After high school Milligan plans to go to college and major in either biology or biomedical engineering, take a Pre-Med track from there, and then plans to continue on to medical school.
