Norman's Ben Emmert – Academic Athlete of the Month – Presented by Republic Bank & Trust
- Updated: December 3, 2018
Norman varsity basketball player Ben Emmert started playing the sport when he was the young age of five years old. Today, Emmert is a starter for the Norman Tigers playing forward where his athleticism and ability to get to the rim comes into play. Being a member of the squad at Norman is something special for Emmert. He loves the passion and fearlessness his teammates bring to the floor.
“I love that our team competes,” said Emmert. “No one on our team is afraid of anyone.”
Emmert and his teammates are hopeful their talent, demeanor and basketball philosophy will translate into wins this season.
Emmert takes a similar approach in the classroom, attacking his subjects and being proactive when it comes to academics.
“Academics are extremely important, because if you fail then you can’t play,” said Emmert. “My favorite subject is Physics.”
Emmert, after his basketball career comes to an end, hopes to become someone everyone turns to for important information on a daily and nightly basis.
“I want to be a meteorologist when I graduate from college,” said Emmert.
We can watch him play basketball today, but one day he may be giving us that five-day forecast!
Emmert is an excellent example of what it means to be a dedicated student-athlete.
