Norman's Grace Hathaway – Academic Athlete of the Month Presented by Republic Bank & Trust

In her third year with the varsity Pom squad at Norman High School, Grace Hathaway has grown into a leader on the team and in the classroom. 

“To excel in pom requires a lot of focus, hard work, and practice. I believe that you can succeed at nearly anything with those three things,” said Hathaway. “I think that it is very important for me to be a leader on my team, as should all experienced members. We need to lead by example and help others. I always want to be a good example for the sophomores on the team and for the freshmen on JV who aspire to be on varsity next year.” 

In the classroom, Hathaway is determined to make the most of every opportunity available at NHS. 

“Academics are very important to me. After I graduate, I plan on going to college and med school to study either dermatology or radiology,” said Hathaway. 

The Lady Tiger is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Link Crew. Away from school, Hathaway is a member of Teen Advisors of Norman. The passion for her school and community drives Hathaway to be involved with issues facing her peers and the people of Norman. 

“Norman has strong community spirit and cares a lot about education. I appreciate the school leaders and community leaders who have worked so hard to make our schools the best they can be,” said Hathaway. 

Her squad is another passion for Hathaway and her teammates mean everything to her. 

“My teammates and my coach are the reason I love being on NHS Pom. We all put in hard work and effort to build ourselves as dancers and as leaders throughout the school. Our coach constantly betters us by pouring herself into our team and our program. Through our NHS pom camp, I was able to create bonds with my teammates and connect with the JV girls during our Big/Little event,” said Hathaway. “I love my team because I know that we all have each other’s backs. I love that I am surrounded by talented people who have the same goals as I do. We constantly push each other to be our best while creating valuable relationships at the same time.”
