Community Christian's Bri Winner: Driven Athlete of the Month – Presented by Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Norman
- Updated: October 16, 2018
By Corey Heim
A junior at Community Christian School in Norman, Oklahoma, Bri Winner is serving her third year as a member of the cheerleading team.
On the cheerleading team she is currently a side base, a term used in stunting for the base that holds the flier on the side, rather than in front or back.
Along with participating on her school’s cheerleading team, Winner also competes for All Star Cheerleading, which she has done for the past six years. She began school cheer back in seventh grade. At that time, her family was living in Germany due to her father being in the military. Cheer was a new sport implemented in Germany and it was in Europe where her love for the sport began.
Her favorite part about cheerleading is being able to give her all with her teammates and compete in less than three minutes, where there are no do-overs for any mistakes. A very stressful performance, but it makes ever success more enjoyable.
Beyond cheerleading, Winner is an involved student on campus and serves as treasurer for the National Honor Society, an officer in Student Council and Key Club, and has plans to run for class office her senior year. She is able to balance her participation in athletics and school organizations while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, a remarkable feat for such an involved student.
After graduating high school, Winner hopes to attend Oklahoma Baptist University to continue cheering and pursue a major in biochemistry. She hopes to then attend medical school in order to start a career as a dermatologist.
