Noble's Raina Wilson: Driven Athlete of the Month – Presented by Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Norman
- Updated: September 25, 2018
By Corey Heim
A member of the Noble High cheerleading team, Raina Wilson serves as a back spot for the Bears.
She has been involved in cheerleading for ten years, originally joining because she thought the sport looked exciting and fun as a child. As challenging as competing in cheerleading is, she finds it to still be just as fun as when she was younger.
“Competition brings out the best in me, as it always keeps me improving,” Wilson said. “It is immensely satisfying to see all the hard work pay off in the end.”
Being a back spot, Wilson has a tremendous amount of responsibility placed upon her shoulders. She is in charge of calling out the counts before a stunt, while also making sure she has firm control of the flyer while they’re up in the air. This position calls her to be a leader on the team and help others.
“I think of my teammates as another family that I can always count on,” Wilson said. “I work hard so that I can inspire the next generation of cheerleaders and always be someone they can count on.”
Wilson is also a leader in academics as well at her school. She carries a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 36thin her class. She said that she places just as much work and attention into her grades, as well as her performances.
“My school does an excellent job of making sure that each student athlete has enough time to get both academics and athletics done,” said Wilson.
Upon graduating this May, Wilson plans on attending Oklahoma State University where she wants to study to become a pediatric nurse; a career that she has been looking forward to throughout her time in school.
