Westmoore’s Caitlin Bui – Academic Athlete of the Month Presented by Republic Bank & Trust
- Updated: September 15, 2018
By Kelsey Baucom
Caitlin Bui has been a cheerleader since her 7thgrade year when a friend encouraged her to join. Bui was interested, and even worked on her skills before joining the squad.
“The reason why I wanted to do it is because my best friend Kailyn convinced me to do it in junior high,” said Bui. “I taught myself skills so I decided to try out for the team.”
Now, as a junior at Westmoore High School, she loves the sport and her teammates. One of the things she enjoys most about cheering as a Jaguar is the energy that comes with each competition, especially during the state tournament.
“I like feeling the energy on the mat while competing for state and nationals,” she said. “Competing gives me the motivation to do my absolute best because I don’t ever want to let my team down. We all have one goal and that is to win.”
Another school activity Bui is involved in is National Honor Society. Bui’s involvement with NHS is just one example of her commitment to academics. She is one student athlete who makes a point to prioritize her education.
“I focus on maintaining a high GPA throughout the whole year,” she said. “I make sure to do my work and study for every class. Being in the classroom motivates me to keep good grades and to pass the class.”
Not only does she maintain an impressive GPA, she has done so all of her high school career, and is on track to continue her successful pattern.
“An academic accomplishment I’m proud of is being able to keep at least a 4.0 GPA since freshman year,” she said.
After high school, Bui plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and pursue a career in the medical field.
