Norman's London Stover – Academic Athlete Presented by Republic Bank & Trust

London Stover hasn’t yet earned a spot on the Norman varsity golf squad, but while he’s working toward that goal, he is also excelling in the classroom.

While Stover, a freshman who has maintained a 3.9 GPA and currently lists chemistry as his favorite subject, didn’t quite make the cut for the Tigers, he used this year to improve his game.

“This season was pretty okay,” Stover said. “I was kind of struggling at the beginning of the year, but as time went on, I practiced and practiced and scores started getting better in tournaments.”

Norman coach Bruce Renfroe has high hopes for Stover’s future success with the Tigers.

“London just missed playing varsity this year, but with eight graduating seniors, he will be a key player next year,” Renfroe said. “London is going to be the total package. He is rounding out into a great golfer. He is a quality person, grounded, liked by all, and he is really smart.”

Knowing that he will be counted on to contribute next year has Stover motivated to continue working on his game between now and then.

“There’s no pressure, I’m actually really excited because I get to be up there with the big boys and just try to play my best,” Stover said. “That’s what it’s all about. And I’m going to be working harder this summer, pretty much every day, to get back and keep doing good and better. I’m going to be participating in a lot of tournaments, and I got a good coach who will help me this summer.”
