Moore's Morgan Schmidt – Character Counts Presented by Eskridge Honda
- Updated: March 24, 2018
By Kelsey Baucom
Moore junior Morgan Schmidt has played softball from a very young age, for a total of 12 years now. Her introduction to the game came from her simple want of a bat and a glove when she was little. She has grown to love the game ever since. Her competitive nature is what draws her to the sport.
“My favorite part of competing is the adrenaline,” said Schmidt.
Schmidt loves the close-knit feeling the students at Moore High share. It is part of what motivates her to be a leader on her team.
“My favorite thing about Moore High School is the inclusive atmosphere,” she said. “Seeing everyone around me succeed motivates me to be a good leader.”
Schmidt’s definition of having good character in athletics is built upon the classic idea of sportsmanship and respect for her fellow athletes. When asked about her goals for how she plans on tackling this season, she had an answer that reflected this.
“Having good sportsmanship and character is winning and losing with class,” she said. “My goal for this season is for us to compete and stay positive.”
Someone who has influenced Schmidt in her athletic career is her travel coach Chris King.
“My travel ball coach, Chris King, has been a huge influence on me,” she said. “He pushes me to be my best and gives me all the tools I need to succeed.”
After high school, Schmidt’s plans include attending college, hopefully on a softball and academic scholarship.
