Southmoore’s Mikayla Smith – Academic Athlete of the Month sponsored by Republic Bank & Trust

Playing travel softball since the age of four and maintaining great grades all throughout school is already paying off for Southmoore sophomore Mikayla Smith.
Softball has always been a part of Smith’s life, ever since her father introduced her to the sport twelve years ago.
“When I was little my dad just signed me up one day and from that point on I fell in love with the game,” she said.
The shortstop/second baseman currently plays travel softball for Gametime Gold 2020 and plays fastpitch and slowpitch for the Southmoore Sabercats. Her favorite things about her high school are the staff and the younger students she mentors.
“I love the coaching staff and teachers at Southmoore High School,” she said, “and I give kids lessons in my free time.”
Even despite her busy schedule, Smith knows that her academics are a top priority. When asked what motivates her to stay on top of her schoolwork, she replied, “Getting good grades to be successful in life and in college!”
Smith says that she’s had a few influences along the way who have supported and encouraged her.
“My dad and mom have helped me since day one,” she said, “and Shelby Pendley has helped me to get where I am today in softball.”
After high school Smith will continue her softball career and education at Oklahoma State University.
