2017 Mr. Football Oklahoma Award Winner – Josh Proctor of Owasso – Presented by Shelter Insurance
- Updated: December 20, 2017
TULSA (December 20, 2017) — In its 6th year honoring Oklahoma’s best high school football players, VYPE Magazine and Shelter Insurance are proud to announce Joshua Proctor of Owasso High School as its 2017 Shelter Insurance Mr. Football Oklahoma Player of the Year. Proctor is the first Mr. Football Oklahoma Player of the Year to be chosen from Owasso High School.
The Shelter Insurance Mr. Football Oklahoma award recognizes the outstanding athletic achievements of Joshua Proctor and the high standards of athletic excellence and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, which distinguishes Proctor as Oklahoma’s best high school football player.
Proctor finished an amazing season with the Owasso Rams by winning the Class 6AI state title over Union High School under first year head coach Bill Blankenship. Proctor has signed his letter of intent to play at The Ohio State University next fall.
A weapon for Owasso, Proctor was utilized on both sides of the ball playing defensive back and wide receiver. Winning the Shelter Insurance Mr. Football Award was a humbling experience for Proctor.
“It’s an honor to win Mr. Football. I want to thank my teammates, coaches and family for believing in me. I’m honored to join a list with so many great players that came before me,” said Proctor.
VYPE Magazine Publisher Austin Chadwick said of Proctor, “It is with great pride we present Josh with the 2017 Mr. Football award. He stands out in a long list of amazing winners. Josh may be one of the best athletes to come out of Oklahoma in quite some time. He was a special player and because of his willingness to play any position the coaches asked and his willingness to be a coachable player, he rewarded his team, coaches and the community of Owasso with being a leader who helped win a state title in Oklahoma’s largest class. Upending the 20-year Union-Jenks dominance.”
Proctor joins former Mr. Football award winners; Trey’Vonne Barre’-Jenks (2012), Kai Callins-Guthrie (2013), Mason Fine-Locust Grove (2014), Cooper Nunley-Jenks (2015) and Shamari Brooks-Union (2016).
Other finalists for Mr. Football included Payton Scott-Sand Springs, Dax Hill-Booker T. Washington, Devonte Lee-John Marshall, CJ Moore-Union, Jacob Medrano-Muskogee, Casey Thompson-Newcastle, Drake Stoops-Norman North, Tyler Stuever-Washington, TK Wilkerson-Skiatook, Braden Gleason-Muldrow, Davis Govrik-Bishop Kelley, Brendan Mitchell-Edmond Memorial, Jason Bartel-Sallisaw, AJ Newsome-Putnam City, Caleb Bigpond-Glenpool, Braxton Bohrofen-Westmoore and R.J.
