2017 Shelter Insurance Mr. Football Finalists Announced – Polls Open!

From the VYPE Top 100, we have whittled down the list and announce the finalists for the Shelter Insurance Mr. Football Award. The 15 finalists have showed extraordinary talents on and off the field. The Mr. Football Poll is at the bottom. Vote now through December 10th to vote for the Fan’s Choice Award. The voting of this poll will count as a ballot along with media and coaching ballots that VYPEOK receives.

These will all go into the final tally and decide who exactly is Mr. Football Oklahoma. The winner will be announced Dec. 15th 2017. The finalists are listed below.

Jacob Medrano – Muskogee – Medrano passed for 3,419 yards and 27 TDs completing 207 of 330 pass attempts. Led the Roughers to back-to-back appearances in the state semifinals of Class 6AII.

Caleb Bigpond – Glenpool – Bigpond got off to a great start this season rushing for 808 yards and 8 TDs before suffering an injury that put him on the sidelines. Bigpond is an All-VYPE selectee.

Davis Govrik – Bishop Kelley – A two-way player on the line, Govrik has recorded 101 tackles and 7 sacks as a defensive tackle. He was a preseason All-VYPE selectee.

Tyler Stuever – Washington – The senior rushed for 2,063 yards and 26 TDs on 203 carries. He added 8 receptions for 221 yards and 2 TDs. On defense, Stuever accounted for 86 tackles, 1 sack and 2 interceptions.

Jason Bartel – Sallisaw – A preseason All-VYPE selectee on the offensive line, Bartell has offers from New Mexico State and NSU.

Payton Scott – Sand Springs – Scott has rushed for 2,586 yards on 314 carries scoring 31 TDs on the ground. He added 10 receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown. He set a single season rushing record in Class 6A.

AJ Newsome – Putnam City – Newsome threw for 2,922 yards and 33 TDs completing 191 of 338 pass attempts for the Pirates. He also rushed for 294 yards on 113 carries scoring 5 TDs on the ground. Newsome has an offer from Howard.

Devonte Lee – John Marshall – This season Lee rushed for 1,549 yards on 115 carries scoring 25 TDs. He averaged 13.5 yards a carry and caught 4 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Lee is committed to Nevada.

Brendan Mitchell – Edmond Memorial – Mitchell has 701 yards on 59 receptions and 5 TDs this season. Mitchell has accepted an appointment to the Naval Academy.

RJ Wakley – Victory Christian – Wakley accounted for 2,305 yards passing with 27 TDs completing 132 of 188 pass attempts. On the ground Wakley added 122 yards on 29 carries with 5 TDs.

Drake Stoops – Norman North – Stoops caught 67 passes for 1,093 yards and 15 TDs. He averaged 16.3 yards per reception. Stoops also added an interception on defense. Stoops has an offer from Memphis.

Josh Proctor – Owasso – The Owasso standout was instrumental in helping the Rams to the Class 6A state finals as a DB and WR. Proctor has accounted for nearly 453 yards on offense only 30 touches. Returned a kickoff 99-yards for a TD and has crucial INT returns for TDs.

Dax Hill – Booker T. Washington – The junior recorded 58 tackles and 5 interceptions this season with 131 INT return yards. Hill has multiple offers including Stanford, Colorado, Arkansas, Baylor, Penn State, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, Tulsa, TCU, Ole Miss, Missouri, Oklahoma State and OU.

Casey Thompson – Newcastle – Thompson threw for 3,217 yards and 37 TDs completing 221 of 383 pass attempts this season. He also rushed for 884 yards on 153 carries scoring 8 TDs. Thompson has committed to the University of Texas.

CJ Moore – Union – Moore caught 36 passes for 612 yards and 12 scores this season. He has committed to Oklahoma State University and has helped the Redskins back to the Class 6AI state title game.

Braden Gleason – Muldrow – Gleason passed for 2,854 yards and 29 touchdowns, while completing 202 of 267 pass attempts. Gleason also rushed for 648 yards on 116 carries adding 14 TDs to his totals.

T.K. Wilkerson – Skiatook – Wilkerson rushed for 1669 yards on 236 carries scoring 23 TDs. He averaged 7.0 yards per carry. The senior has given his verbal commitment to the University of Tulsa. Skiatook has made it to the semifinals of Class 5A.

Braxton Bohrofen – Westmoore – Bohrofen threw for 2,249 yards and 25 TDs completing 165 of 272 passes this season. He rushed for 72 yards on 34 carries with 5 TDs. Bohrofen also caught two passes for 53 yards and a score.
