Community Christian's Callie Martin – Driven Athlete of the Month sponsored by Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman

Callie Martin has played basketball for 14 years, playing point guard and shooting guard. She first started playing when she was four years old in the Upward basketball league in Norman.
Martin currently plays for Community Christian School, and the thing she loves most about it is her teammates.
“I love the competitive nature of basketball and being a part of a team,” said Martin. “I am very grateful and blessed by my team. They make it possible for me to go out and play basketball.”
Community Christian’s girls basketball coach, Michelle McNear, said that Martin has earned the spot of a starter since her sophomore year because she “works hard year round on her game.”
Martin also plays varsity soccer on her high school team, and plays on a travel team during the summer. But she also takes extra measures to continue honing her skills.
“To stay competitive, I see a private trainer for shooting before practices,” she said.
Martin embraces the additional work aside from practice because over the years, it has taught her a valuable lesson that applies to life outside of sports.
“I believe that pushing yourself to do your best carries over to everyday life,” she said.
Martin’s parents also instilled in her the drive to do her best.
“My parents are my biggest fans and they always push me to be the best I can be,” she said.
After high school, Martin plans on attending the University of Oklahoma and then transferring to Northeastern State University to pursue optometry.
