Norman High School’s Octavia Rogers has been involved in cheer for three years now. She is an all-around talent, performing the positions of front spot, base, and is now learning how to be a flier. But over the years, cheer has taught her more than just different positions.
“What I enjoy most about cheer is the self-confidence it gives me when I perform during games and routines,” Rogers said. “It also helps me with presenting at school as well.”
When it comes to school, Rogers says that her teachers are a huge driving force behind her desire to do well in the classroom.
“What motivates me to be successful in my classes are my teachers because of the encouragement they give and the genuine care that they have for me to succeed,” she said.
An academic accomplishment Rogers is proud of is the progress she has made in math. She said that for a while she struggled with the subject, but when high school hit she began to understand it.
Rogers cites her mother as one of the most important influences in her life.
“A person who has influenced my learning significantly is my mom,” she said. “She encourages me with school even if she doesn’t realize it, and she helps me to the best of her ability when I’m struggling.”
After high school, Rogers plans to attend college to become an ultrasound technician. She also hopes to go on mission trips to help different places around the world.
For her dedication to academic excellence, Octavia Rogers is the Norman High Academic Athlete of the Month.
