Norman Area FCA Athlete of the Month: Riley Barker of Norman North sponsored by Christian Brothers Auto
- Updated: October 18, 2017
Whether it’s as a key member of Norman North’s scout team or as a member of the First Christian Church of Norman, sophomore Riley Barker takes a lot of pride in helping others be better.
He started playing football in the first grade before trying tackle football in the fourth grade for the first time. Barker plays extensively on junior varsity but has relished his role on the varsity scout team.
“I like trying to help other people out and make them better,” Barker said. “The scout team really makes a big difference at the end of the day. If the scout team performs well during the week, they won’t have a look to practice with.”
Barker is involved with the Young Republicans and has been a part of other groups at Norman North. His commitment on the football field and his intelligence within the game haven’t gone unnoticed by his coach.
“Riley is one of those kids who is a really smart kid,” Norman North coach Brent Barnes said. “He really understands the game, and he’s always trying to learn. He’s a guy that’s at everything we ever do in the offseason and the summer. He’s always doing anything you ask him to do. He’s another one who you just love having in your program because of what they mean.”
