Shannon Mashburn: Norman North Mom of the Month sponsored by Antique Gardens
- Updated: October 4, 2017
Shannon Mashburn certainly didn’t tiptoe into the booster club pool once her oldest son, Cade, reached Norman North High School. She’d been watching her boys play football – flag and then tackle – since they were five years old and had almost no hesitation in helping out with the Timberwolves.
She has helped make team and coach meals, raised funds, and decorated the locker rooms. Mashburn, whose younger son Cole is a junior and a member of the Vype Top 100, is the co-chair of the spirit committee – setting out and executing a different theme for every game.
“I just think it’s really important to help out,” said Mashburn, whose son Cade currently is a freshman for the Memphis Tigers. “I appreciate the coaches so much and all the time they put in to help my kids achieve their dreams. I think giving back is really important and carrying my weight is important, too.
“Anyway that I can help, I want to make the program better. It helps all of our kids to keep that program strong. For our future kids too, I think that’s really important.”
Norman North is off to a 4-1 start this season. Mashburn is a third-grade teacher at Truman Elementary in Norman.
“I thought that’s where I should definitely volunteer my time because that’s what they were involved in,” Mashburn said of initially working with the booster club. “I’ve been a really active member since the beginning. … We’ve still got a couple more years.”
