Norman High's Abby Puckett – Character Counts sponsored by Investment Counseling Services

Norman High School senior Abby Puckett has a very busy schedule, but that does not stop her from making sure her education is a priority.
She is on the Pom squad, as well as being the historian of the Rotary Interact club, a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Christians on Campus, and serving as a freshman Link Crew leader. She also attends Premiere Dance Company where she is a member of the competitive company and assists in teaching a two and three year old ballet class.
Puckett joined Pom at the end of her eighth grade year, and she is glad she did.
“The thing that I enjoy the most about it are the friendships and memories that I have made because of it,” she said. “I have met and became close friends with people that I probably would have never known had it not been for Pom.”
In spite of all the activities that fill up her schedule, Puckett still manages to maintain a 4.0 GPA, is ranked first in her graduating class, and is doing concurrent enrollment at the University of Oklahoma.
“The main reason I took concurrent classes was so that I could continue to challenge myself in subjects that I enjoy while getting a jumpstart on my college credits,” she said.
Puckett plans to study kinesiology at either Oklahoma State University or the University of Arkansas and hopes to eventually attend graduate school to become a physical therapist. Keeping her eyes on the prize is how she motivates herself to be successful in the classroom.
“I would be really grateful to receive some academic scholarships for the future so that is a big motivator,” she said. “I also really want to succeed in college so I know that working hard and creating successful habits now will help in the long run.”
