Norman Mom of the Month: Teresa Lenox – sponsored by Antique Garden of Norman
- Updated: July 13, 2017
Five years ago, Teresa Lenox started her journey with the Norman football program alongside her twin boys, Drannon and Daegan, when they were in just the seventh grade. When the Tigers made a head coaching change after last season, Lenox reached out to new coach Rocky Martin in an email, welcoming him to the school and offering her support.
The transition has been nearly flawless thanks to the support of the booster club and Teresa, who serves as the club’s secretary.
“She is extremely organized and is always in constant communication with all the parents,” Martin said. “She is always the first one at an event to help set-up or to organize and usually the last one to leave. … She has been a major asset to the program the past three years.”
There has been a free exchange of ideas, and Lenox said Martin has been accepting of all the long-lasting fundraisers and services that the booster club had provided in the past. Lenox said she will do whatever it takes to support the program.
It’s a form of service for her.
“It is an opportunity to be of service,” Lenox said. “That’s something that we have really stressed with our kids: Service and leadership. If you have an opportunity or if you have the time, … that’s a gift. I’d like to use that gift and be of service to others.”
Lenox isn’t much different than most parents who get involved in high school sports and booster, hoping to spend a little extra time with their kids – because as Lenox said, “they’ll only be little for a while.”
Lenox is taking advantage of any of those opportunities, not only to be around her children but to show them a life lesson.
“When you’re out there and you’re available, it teaches them to be available,” Lenox said. “I think that’s a really important teaching tool.”
